| The
Elam Tennis Classic is the oldest professional Men's
Tennis Tournament in the Intermountain Region, a six-state
area. The non-profit tournament is the highest paying
individual tournament and draws 32 touring and club
professionals. It's Grand Junction's finest professional
tennis action of the year.
For
the past ten years the tournament has drawn a consistent
group of outstanding players in a competitive but
fun atmosphere. We strive to offer our player a
first class experience through our facilities and
player hospitality.
Elam
Construction, Inc. provides the financial support
for the tournament, including prize money, promotional
and administration costs and has sponsored the Tennis
Classic since 1986. Long-time Grand Junction tennis
supporter, Carter Elliott, originated the event
and has continued as Tournament Director since its
beginning. The tournament is sanctioned by United
States Tennis Association (USTA) and Colorado Tennis

What it Takes to Build a Precision Tennis Court |
Building a precision tennis court is a challenge because of the exacting requirements neccessary for their construction.
In tennis court construction, tolerances must be maintained to within 7/8", (the thickness of a nickel) in order to ensure a smooth and properly level playing surface and still allow adequate slope for drainage.
This is an exacting process which includes grading the sub-grade earth to absolute zero level, then applying a six inch layer of 3/4" maximum road base gravel and cover of two separate layers of 1/2" asphalt and a surface finish coat.
Elam Construction, Inc. is a proud sponsor of the Elam Classic and builder of precision tennis courts. |
